London - Bailey's Hotel

Hotels that are adjacent to conference centres are typically modern, impersonal and bland, but if you
are looking for an alternative in London, The Bailey’s is a great choice.


Millennium Hotels describes The Bailey’s as being set in a Victorian townhouse, which is perhaps
underselling it, as this 212-room property was actually purpose-built as a hotel and has been one since
opening in 1876.


Named after its founder, Sir James Bailey MP, whose image is depicted in some way in every room,
the property sits amid the elegance of Kensington.


You get the hint that The Bailey’s is something special as soon as you enter the lobby and see the
sweeping wrought iron staircase, cornicing and stained glass set off beautifully by new parquet
flooring.


The hotel is set over five storeys and a £7.5 million refurbishment programme was completed in
January that married the best of the traditional with a contemporary feel. This saw all guest rooms
and public areas refreshed, with four distinct London design motifs; Kensington, Kew, Henley and City
Gent, used on different floors. During the refit, all bathrooms were completely refurbished and now
boast contemporary walk-in showers with modern fittings tempered by Victorian-style detailing.
Among 13 suites are two that feature a private staircase, freestanding baths and 55-inch TVs.


The Bailey’s is ideal as a base for meetings as you don’t have to leave the building to reach the 500-
capacity Millennium Conference Centre, which boasts 25 function rooms. A few paces away is another
property, The Millennium Gloucester, which is also connected to the conference centre. With 610
rooms, The Gloucester is an ideal main base for delegates attending larger gatherings, with The
Bailey’s an excellent upgrade or VIP option.


Between both is the Bombay Brasserie, perhaps the UK’s most renowned Indian restaurant, while the
hotel’s main entrance is opposite Gloucester Road Underground, with some of the world’s most
famous museums, galleries, shops and eating places on the doorstep or within a few minutes. If you
